词组 easy, easily
释义 easy, easily
As an adverb, easy has a long history of reputable use. It was first recorded in 1400 and can be found in the works of such authors as Spenser, Shakespeare, and Byron. In current English it has many uses, most of which have a somewhat informal quality:
... Bauer knows when to go easy on players —Current Biography, February 1967
In the daytime I'm working in the studios, $10 an hour. Making $300, $400 a week easy —Jimmy McPartland, quoted in Studs Terkel, Hard Times, 1970
... was just a matter of rest and quiet, and taking things easy —Daphne du Maurier, Ladies' Home Jour., August 1971
... lets no one off easy —Richard Howard, N. Y. Times Book Rev., 24 Nov. 1974
Laughs come easy nowadays —Jeffrey Klein, N. Y. Times Book Rev., 24 Oct. 1976
All those out there who may have wondered what Atlantic City would be without Bert Parks can rest easy —Judith Cummings, N. Y. Times, 14 Apr. 1980
Go easy on the salad dressing —Martha Smilgis, People, 21 July 1980
Take it easy when you first start a new exercise program —Martha Davis Dunn et al., Living, Learning, and Caring, 1981
These uses of easy are, in general, distinct from the uses of easily. Easily is a more common adverb than easy, and it has a wider range of applications. It can and often does come before the verb it modifies, in which position easy is not possible:
... a distrust that easily erodes the thin crust of knowledge —Theodore Schwartz, Psychology Today, March 1971
... need not be so easily fooled —Stephen Steinberg, Commentary, January 1972
Easily usually cannot be replaced idiomatically by easy, even when it follows the verb:
... seem to be able to suppress the drug's effects easily —Solomon H. Snyder, Psychology Today, May 1971
... a gentleman who moves easily in exalted circles —John Thompson, Harper's, October 1971
In contexts where both adverbs are possible (such as "Laughs come easy" or "Laughs come easily"), you should choose whichever seems most natural and most appropriate to the tone of your writing.
