| 释义 | inside of Bierce 1909 seems to have been the first to insist on the omission of of from the compound preposition inside of. He has been followed by a considerable number of handbooks right up to the present. There are two types of dissent that counter the tradition established by Bierce. Bryant 1962 cites two studies that show inside of occurs in standard contexts as a variant of inside; she thus concludes that inside of is standard, as it is. (Our evidence shows that inside is more common than inside of, however.) The second form of dissent starts as early as MacCracken & Sandison 1917 and continues as recently as Trimmer & McCrimmon 1988; it finds inside of less reprehensible when used with expressions of time. Strunk & White 1959, 1972, 1979 and Reader's Digest 1983 join Bryant in finding this use acceptable also. It seems likely that inside of originated as a speech form in which of served to create a bit of space between inside and the next content word. It would, therefore, be fair to characterize it as colloquial in the nonpejorative sense of the word. You use it or omit it according to the rhythmic requirements of your sentence.
