| 释义 | on 1. On, upon. A sizable number of commentators recommend that you choose on when you have a choice between on and upon. On is certainly the more common word: the Brown University Corpus (Kucera & Francis 1967) shows it to be used more than thirteen times as often as upon. Upon, however, is far from rare; it ranks 205th in the list of the top 6000 words in frequency in that corpus. Clearly many writers do not choose to follow the handbooks' advice.
