词组 | range |
释义 | range Bernstein 1965 states flatly that range (presumably the verb) takes the prepositions through, with, along, or between. Why he chooses to specify those four is unclear. Our evidence shows that range is idiomatically followed by a great many prepositions—so many, in fact, that to list and illustrate all of them would serve no useful purpose. Suffice it to say that you need not agonize over the choice of prepositions following range. It may be worth noting that by far the most common preposition to follow range is one not included in Bernstein's list, namely from: • ... ranging from lock-pickers through photographers to psychiatrists —Times Literary Supp., 2 July 1971 • ... ranging from a whisper to a bray —Susan Braudy, Ms., March 1973 |
