【问】 《英语难题解答400则》在回答读者的问题时说：“in the way与in one’s way不同，前者指方法，方式(in the manner)... ”(P.243)

难道in the way只能表示“方法、方式”，而不能表示“挡路”、“妨事”吗?

【答】 in the way除了表示“以……方式”之外，也能表示“挡路”、“妨事”，在这个意义上，它和in one’s way是相同的。例如：

1. That chair is in the way; move it please. (Worrall)

那把椅子挡路;请把它搬走。

2. I can’t empty the bottle——there’s a piece of cork in the way. (Freeman)

我不能把瓶子倒空——有一个软木塞挡住了。

3. Her social life got in the way of her studies. (LDCE)

她的社交生活妨碍了她的学习。

4. Just as the accident happened some people got in my way，so I didn't see it at all.

事故发生时刚好有几个人挡在我前面，所以我什么也没看见。
