【答】 sooner than本是一个复合的从属连词，常常作为一个整体放在从句中：

1. They'll fight to the finish sooner than surrender.

2. Sooner than wait for a reply to your letter，I would telephone.

我宁愿打电话，也不等着对你的信的答复。

当主句中含有would，should时，sooner常常转移到主句中去(见rather than条)：
