 谢振元教授主编《研究生入学考试英语复习指南(1997)》(中国人民大学出版社)在解答上题时说：“句中的‘wide’本身可作副词，此处不必再加‘-ly’。”既然wide可作副词，为什么下题中的副词wide竟是错误的呢?

 【答】 wide既可用作形容词，又可用作副词。当wide与run，open或awake连用时，在词性上是副词，属固定搭配。在其他场合则常常使用widely。当wide修饰open与awake时作“完全地”解：

 他让办公室的门敞开着。
 2. He was wide awake. (GPU)
 他一点儿也没有睡着(他完全醒着)。
