【问】 看到一个中译本将the second floor译作“第三层”。为什么要将second译作“第三”呢?
 又floor与storey有什么区别?
 【答】 在英国英语里，一楼叫做the ground floor，二楼叫做the first floor，三楼叫做the secondfloor，以此类推，而在美国英语里，一楼叫做the first floor，二楼叫做the second floor，三楼叫做the third floor，以此类推。因此，在翻译和使用时，应分清是英国英语还是美国英语。
 floor与storey主要有以下区别：
 A.当说“住在第几层”或“……位于第几层”时，大都使用floor，较少使用storey(美国英语为story)。例如：
 1. Her room was on the second floor，facing the street. (Galsworthy)
 她的房间位于二楼，朝街。
 2. On the floor above the theater are the deans’offices.
