【问】 《朗文英语语法》(外研社，P.425)说：在It’s time(that)之后既可用过去时，也可用虚拟语气：

It’s (high) time he was (were) taught a lesson.

现在是该教训教训他的时候了。

但是，我在其他语法书上却没有查到用were-型虚拟语气的例句。这是怎么回事呢?

【答】 CGEL的作者们提出了与《朗文英语语法》完全相反的观点：

“The were-subjunctive cannot replace the hypothetical past in constructions introduced by It’stime (that) ，eg：It’s time I was in bed，” (CGEL，P.1013)

(“在It’s time (that)引导的结构中，例如：在It’s time I was in bed中，were-型虚拟语气不能代替假设过去时。”)
