的不同而不同”,例如: - Return and exchange rules vary by store.
- This percentage will vary by school.
- John rents this house by the month.
- They are paid by the hour.
- She became angrier and more agitated by the minute.
- As they moved ever southward, the temperature rose by the day. (John Darnton, The Darwin Conspiracy, p.202)
- She sells apples by the dozen.
- We sell crackers by the carton.
但是,如果不是“按(重量、体积等等的)单位计算”,而是“按重量、体积等等范畴计算”,则 by 后面就不要 the,例如: - The package is sold by weight(*by the weight), not by volume (*by the volume).
- The package is sold by the kilo, not by the cubic centimeter.
