词组 quasi
释义 quasi
The pronunciation of quasi, which comes from a Latin form meaning "as if and "as it were," perplexes many speakers. The clear front-runner in our file of attested pronunciations is \\\\'kwā-,zī\\\\ (rhyming with day's eye), a version not even mentioned in many discussions of this word, either as the pronunciation usually produced (but deprecated) or as the pronunciation to aim for. Following neck and neck at a respectful distance are \\\\kwā-,sī\\\\ and \\\\'kwä-zē\\\\ (rhyming with may sigh and Ozzie). Trotting along companionably behind these are \\\\'kwä-sē\\\\ and \\\\kwä-zē\\\\, with \\\\'kwā-,sī\\\\ and \\\\'kwā-zē\\\\ bringing up the rear. A rule of thumb might be to say \\\\'kwa-,zī\\\\ if you want to sound like your neighbors, and \\\\kwä-sē\\\\ if you want to sound like Caesar. All these pronunciations are in respectable use, however, and you might just prefer not to change the pronunciation you use now.
