【问】 我已经知道，though (although)... but是中国人常犯的典型错误。但是，though... yet为什么就不是典型错误呢? but和yet同是连词，为什么用法有这么大的区别?

【答】 首先应当肯定，though...yet是正确的英语格式：

1. Though he is poor，yet he is satisfied with his situation. (CGEL)

尽管他很穷，但他对他的境况是满意的。

2. Though the sore be healed，yet a scar may remain. (Prov)

伤口虽愈合伤疤却永留。

为什么在这里可以用yet，而不能用but呢?因为but是并列连词，而yet却是个副词。副词yet与从属连词though并用，可产生关联关系。除yet之外，在含有让步状语从句的主句中还可以使用nevertheless，still等副词：

1. Although (Though) admission was free，nevertheless few people attended the lecture.

尽管免费入场，但听讲的人却不多。

2. Although he was ill，yet/still/nevertheless he managed to look careful.(《新编英语语法》)

虽然他病了，但他尽力显出很注意的样子。
