1) 表示“（人或物）自己安全”。

• You are safe here.你在这里是安全的。
• At least we're safe from the threat of dismissal.起码我们不受到解雇的威胁。
• She is safe from any immediate danger.她已经没有任何直接的危险。
• No one is safe from her sharp tongue.谁都避免不了她的冷嘲热讽。
• The money will be safe here.钱放在这里是安全的。
• His reputation is safe.他保住了名誉。
• Keep these documents safe.好好保存这些文件。
• Your secret is safe with me.我一定替你保守秘密。

2) 表示“（事物）对人无害”或“（事物）能保障人的安全”。

• That ladder isn't very safe.那把梯子不大安全。
• Is the water safe to drink?水喝了安全吗？
• Do you think it's safe to go out now?你觉得现在出去安全吗？
• They claim nuclear power is perfectly safe.他们声称核能是完全安全的。

3) “自己安全”同“对人安全”分不清的。

• a safe driver开车很可靠的人（既保自己安全，也保别人安全）。

4) to be safe of 可以是“（人对物）…有把握能得到”（后面名词成分不定指）或“（人对物或物对人）…有安全的把握”（后面名词成分定指）。

• ... and certainly the reader is safer of entertainment in their hands than in those of the writers who take a malicious pleasure in representing the great figures of romance as patterns of the domestic virtues. (Somerset Maugham, The Moon and Sixpence, Chapter I)…用不着说，比起那些把富有浪漫色彩的人物写成道貌岸然的君子的使人败兴的作家来，这一派历史学者的著作肯定能够给予读者更大的乐趣（这里指的是前者）。

5) to be on the safe side 是“宁可稳妥一些”。

• Take an umbrella to be on the safe side.宁可稳妥一些，带把雨伞吧。

6) safe (f 读[f])是形容词，save (v 读[v])是及物动词，两者不可混淆。
