■ hide这个动词（物或不及物）两个体，一个是作为第四类动词，表示瞬时动作，即“从没有躲藏转入躲藏状态”这个变化（作为及物动词或不及物动词使用），另一个是作为第一类动词，表示“处于躲藏状态”（不及物）或“使之保持躲藏状态”（及物）这个延续意义。（如果是后者，也可以作为第二类动词，采用 to be hiding 这个进行式或者 hide out）。 1) 前一个意义是瞬时动作的。 - At their approach the little boy scurried away and hid.他们走近时，那个小男孩就匆忙走开，躲藏起来。

4) 可以用 hide out 表示延续状态。 - The gangsters hid out in a remote cabin until it was safe to return to the city.帮匪们躲在偏僻的小木屋里，一直等到能安全返回城里为止。
要注意的是，一般是一个原来表示延续状态的动词，加上一个像 in, out, off, up 之类的副词，就从原来的延续状态变成为瞬时动作。但是 hide 有点特别，本来是个瞬时动词，加了个 out 反而成了个延续动词了。 5) 可以用被动式表示延续状态（不表示瞬时的躲藏动作）。 - Much of his face was hidden by a beard.他的脸大部分被胡须遮盖着。
